Every time you spend time in the realm you will have experiences - in the broadest sense of the word. You may find new locations, do new quests, witness something important for the first time or perform some activity you've never done before. Most of these actions/events are "experiences" in the Avalon sense of the word: marked against your character as it develops, ever-growing as your horizons expand and your rank grows.
It is one of the first DEEDS - achievements of high worth and rarity, publicly and permanently recorded in your character's history - to pass the hundred experiences mark and indeed two further deeds exist for the attainment of 25% and 50% of all "experiences" possible for your character. There are so many "experiences" in Avalon these have both become rare accomplishments and highly sought after.
NOTE: you gain experience points of a different type for going on culls, doing quests, killing, from the companionship of others; you lose experience when you die, incur divine disfavour or use magic without mana. This type of experience (sometimes shortened to XP and explained in HELP XP) defines your character's level (see HELP LEVEL) which in turn is the main factor deciding your maximum health and mana (see HELP HEALTH and HELP MANA). The SCORE command tells you - amongst other things - how you are progresing in experience points.
In part it is an homage to Avalon's predecessors though XP matters and keeping your level high is important. It should not, however, be confused with "experiences". XP levels come and go but "experiences" are forever.
THE MOSAIC CONCEPT
Think of a three-dimensional mosaic with each tile a different colour representing actions, experiences, witnessing, successes, achievements, deeds, feats, failures, honour, shame, events, meetings, quests, combats, development of skills, exploration of the land, encounters with other Avalonians, etc. This is your Avalon character's mosaic and "experiences" make up a crucial and sizeable part of the mosaic of your character's life.
The possible "experiences" number in excess of four thousand. Hundreds are so basic they are shared by all as life in the realm progresses through its natural stages of development. Hundreds more will never be encountered by dint of character choices you make and alignment/allegiences you honour.
CHAPTERS AND OUTLOOK
All "experiences" have a type, a rarity, a worth, a rating how important or how much they embody particular aspects of personality. These are the colours of the aforementioned mosaic and they not only define such things as your STANDING but allow Avalon to tailor encounters/events to involve you in things most challenging or suggest new experiences to fill gaps in your character's historical diversity.
Syntax: EXPERIENCES.
Shows you a summary of experiences (of the raw, life-experience type) you have encountered during your character's life. Expect a minor fanfare when you accumulate 100, 250, 500 and 1000 nodes on your life-mosaic. Attaining 500 crosses a line - no matter character achieve and position otherwise - bestowing "middling" or above standing and announcing to Avalon the completion of a very important DEED. It lays the foundation for establishing your character's legend. Next would be 50% mosaic completion (i..e. experiences plus other components, see above) which is another publicly proclaimed DEED, and finally the combination of over 1000 experiences and 80% mosaic: a FEAT of eternal renowned, the highest tier in the whole mosaic system.
All Avalonians at any point in their lives will be "in progress" on the current chapter of their legendary story. How this chapter is composed is based on your actions to date; your experiences garnered; enmities and friendships won and lost; quests and adventures undertaken and the additional blend of your professional, guild and divine order assocations. Each chapter is unique to the individual. It cannot be any other way for this is an epic tale, a grand adventure, in short: your story, written by your own activity from birth and beyond until death, retirement or the end of the world.
