During your first hours in Avalon, you will be considered a novice. In practical terms this means that you cannot access the Bulletin Board, you cannot involve yourself in elections, join a specialist guild or choose a patron. These restrictions have been introduced in order that you think carefully about your character's progression (particularly in terms of a guild) before making a choice.
You will find yourself guided by Avalon through the early phases of your character development - from the start to the end of your novicehood and junior standing.
You should respond to the guide, especially when you are being asked to enter commands or work out what your character needs to do. The experience chapters are designed with you in mind, to teach you the ways of Avalon and tutor you in how to play the game, so you are liberated as soon as possible to expressing your character ambitions and personality any which way you want.
You may want to look over NHELP to see an index of helpfiles written by individual players of the past and present and then NHELP <file> to read a specific helpfile content.
See HELP TUTORS for details of the guilds and the designated guild tutor CCC to whom you would apply when you wish to join the guild and HELP APPLY for info how to knock on the guildhouse doors to request membership.
