Genesis, the god of time says, "I request all who've assembled here to witness this ceremony now settle to quiet and let us begin."
Genesis, the god of time says, "There are some things I should say before Alarius gets to pass before the pantheon and receive any advice or blessing they may wish to give."
Silken Mya, The Eternally Lost begins to flap her robes furiously and nods knowingly as she shoots up into the skies.
Genesis, the god of time has just started wielding a musket in his left hand.
Genesis, the god of time discharges his musket, to the ground below, with a resounding -BOOM-.
Aethon, the Sun-God gives a nervous snicker.
Genesis, the god of time says, "Let's begin."
Mya has been slain by Genesis (musket bullet).
Genesis, the god of time says, "Alarius, you are the first of what we might call the new appointments."
Genesis, the god of time says, "After certain rather graphic mismatches in the past, partly my own haste and partly the unexpected pressures of divinity, the land suffered and those brought into the pantheon suffered as a result of the elevation to divinity."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Ordained Gods in the past have always coped because they were the strongest of their era and they take divinity in their stride."
Genesis, the god of time says, "The Appointed had always been a lottery, and more than this, I feel they were considered by many a little below the Ordained."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Their divine incarnation indeed was weaker from the outset and would remain so in most cases."
Genesis, the god of time says, "The appointed were caretakers of their realms, the ordained owned them and could never lose their divine status."
Genesis, the god of time says, "But this is no longer a distinction I consider extant."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Appointment to divinity is no longer a matter of whim or snap decision."
Genesis, the god of time says, "It requires a mostly unheralded, difficult, specifically challenging set of obstacles to be overcome."
Genesis, the god of time says, "In this case, Alarius' route to final judgment demanded a year RL of fighting a cause sometimes lost, often thankless, always challenging and demanding of skills that would've daunted most; and scared away more."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Five names were placed before me 12 months ago - after Elmaethor's Ordination."
Genesis, the god of time exclaims, "Five who said 'we want to be gods! we will be wonderful!"
Genesis, the god of time exclaims, "Five who promised 'we love Avalon! we will do you proud! you can rely on us!"
Genesis, the god of time says, "So the arduous road was trodden and of those five but two remain and one is Alarius who has reached its end."
Genesis, the god of time says, "I won't go into more detail because it risks being long and overly specific but HELP APPOINTMENT has info about this process. It is different for everyone."
Genesis, the god of time says, "The reason I cite this new route to appointment is simple: in the past the appointed were viewed as lucky, as not having won the right to godhood in the same way as the ordained."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Ordained or contenders would list their gemquest victories, their mighty stature in the land, their nail-biting sands eliminators and their victory against all Avalon in the final ordination quest."
Genesis, the god of time says, "And this is undoubtedly Avalon's greatest single achievement and a yardstick that has never been met by any but the best. But the best of a certain type."
Genesis, the god of time says, "And now Alarius has proven himself the equal of the ordained by another route much longer, much more easily fallen from and without a road map to easy success."
Genesis, the god of time says, "He has been Prince of Mercinae from a singularly low point in that city's history."
Genesis, the god of time says, "He endured the God of Storms (in a teacup)"
Genesis, the god of time says, "The betrayal of many of the old worn out citizens, some of whom did what they could but were found lacking."
Genesis, the god of time says, "It was Alarius, the fortitude and the constancy, held Mercinae together for its months of bleakness and pessimism."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Alarius who was one of the worst high-rank fighters in Avalon and is now one of the credible average."
Genesis winks at Alchemist Alarius.
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun slumps backwards, dejected.
Genesis, the god of time says, "Alarius who began with much enthusiasm but little experience of leadership and ends I think with the universal support and respect of his city."
Cornelius, the all-consuming looks up into the sky, evidently deep in thought.
Genesis, the god of time says, "Mercinae's young have grown to youth and some approaching maturity under Alarius' tenure and the city is one transformed."
Genesis, the god of time says, "A genuine menace in the military, an economy no longer floundering and going tediously broke."
Genesis, the god of time says, "And citizens who fight for one another or stand up to their enemies and do not bow their heads to any."
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "The power to cultivate young and to inspire generations across the board are highly prized among the pantheon."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Alarius you are not the only reason for this transformation but you are the biggest one."
Genesis, the god of time says, "And as we discussed a year ago, this was your chosen field of 'battle' as t'were and on this field you have proven your worthl."
Genesis, the god of time says, "The second half of the appointment process, I have concluded, can be a test only possible in the clothing of a deity."
Genesis, the god of time says, "It must be made a difficult one and it should have no easy route to success."
Genesis, the god of time says, "The task is simple: while maintaining the momentum of the mortal, to take on a deity role and though all must know it is just short-term, to make a role for this god or goddess."
Genesis, the god of time says, "To make it a relevant one; to bring some imagination and dynamism and narrative to the divine influence; in short: to matter."
Genesis, the god of time says, "You mortals may think this is an easy task to achieve."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Zap Zap, give out some nice gifts, crow for offerings and surely all will fall into place."
Genesis, the god of time says, "But it isn't so."
Cornelius, the all-consuming's mouth opens into a mighty yawn.
Genesis, the god of time says, "Irrelevance is the most damning judgment of all in Avalon."
Genesis, the god of time says, "And so the deityrole phase of appointment, three to six RL months, more if needed: to be relevant and to create a role."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Sylvanus was the guise."
Genesis, the god of time says, "And Alarius handled his divine cameo with great aplomb."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Not perfect by any means, but a role that had been left as pointless as a tangerine was turned around in a matter of weeks."
Genesis, the god of time says, "(almost at the end)"
Genesis, the god of time says, "I say this to you mortals who encounter these cameo deities: be not easy on them, be not mollycoddling, but hold them up to high standards and give them a chance to shine."
Genesis smiles encouragingly at Astrea.
Astrea grins at Genesis in an amiable manner.
Astrea, the first goddess says, "Duly noted."
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "As I've seen this revelation before and considered its implications on the mortal mind, I will interject here..."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Alarius, then, with deity role credibility and Mercinae on an upward trajectory had just two hurdles remaining."
Genesis, the god of time asks, "What, Cornelius?"
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "The position of those who take on the divine role in the first place, are already tested in many forms. They are not casually given."
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "By that point they are already shown to be worthy of trust."
Genesis, the god of time says, "This was not the case in the past always."
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "Worth of demonstrating their abilities further."
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "This was definitely the case with Sylvanus."
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "He had much to overcome first before given even the time or thought."
Genesis, the god of time nods at Cornelius, the all-consuming.
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "I only wish to make that painfully clear to mortals who think low of it."
Genesis, the god of time says, "I don't want to, nor do I think it necessary to go into too much detail. I feel it is a route to appointment that may apply to others - some here indeed - and it is important to understand that appointment is no longer a cakewalk."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Or a case of give Genesis a snog and maybe he'll click his fingers and manifest a deity around you."
Genesis, the god of time says, "These old days are Avalon history and belong there."
Genesis, the god of time says, "They are part of its unique history. But the future is not to be a course plotted with such whimsy."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Mortal suffering has sent its message where it needed to be sent."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Avalon suffering too."
Genesis, the god of time says, "I have no such concern for Alarius when he holds the divine trust."
Genesis, the god of time says, "To conclude:"
Genesis, the god of time says, "One thing remained before Alarius stood before the final judgement and this applies to all prospective appointment by right aspirants."
Genesis, the god of time says, "They must have a successor."
The faraway bells of midnight reach your ears from some distant land. You smile; far from the madding crowd.
News spreads across the realm as Mronz Al'ronz completes the GUILDMASTER deed by having attained an illustrious guildmastery. The achievement is rated: fairly challenging.
ELECTION RESULT:
Mronz defeated Alarius for mastery of the Alchemists Guild.
Genesis, the god of time asks, "Are all the Mercinaen barons here?"
Skulkarax, Commander of the Cygni nods emphatically.
Mystress Shakralay, The Curious nods emphatically.
Sylvankind Vannish, Bringing Hope says, "I think so."
Lord Nighteagle says, "Lleu is not."
Sylvankind Vannish, Bringing Hope says, "Oh, not Lleu."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Lleu has sworn her oath already."
Genesis, the god of time asks, "Alarius, do you have your successor for Prince of Mercinae?"
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun says, "I do, Nighteagle will succeed me to lead Mercinae."
Lord Nighteagle bows respectfully to Alchemist Alarius.
Alchemist Alarius bows respectfully to Lord Nighteagle.
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun nods emphatically.
Genesis, the god of time says, "Nighteagle, you and I have spoken about this and I'm sure you've talked to your fellow Mercinaens. You've told me you feel you're mature enough and competent enough to step into the shoes Alarius leaves."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Is this so? And if so, Mercinaens perhaps you would liberate Alarius from the penultimate of his ties to mortalkind."
Skulkarax, Commander of the Cygni says, "We will, my Lord."
Kurdock tells North, "Grin. Lots of ways to get past problems, just gotta ask :)"
Sylvankind Vannish, Bringing Hope says, "I already oathed Nighteagle."
Sylvankind Vannish, Bringing Hope smiles openly.
Alchemist Alarius swears an oath of loyalty to Lord Nighteagle.
Alchemist Alarius smiles encouragingly at Lord Nighteagle.
By unanimous consent of the Barons of Mercinae, Nighteagle is crowned as Prince of the city. All hail Nighteagle, Prince of Mercinae!
A cascade of white rose petals fall from the skies to herald the entrance of Rhadamanthys, god of compassion.
Genesis, the god of time says, "Congratulations Nighteagle but this is a matter for another place, to celebrate."
Genesis, the god of time says, "It is Alarius on whom we focus."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Successor chosen, there remains but two little ceremonials to conclude."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Two small matters perhaps, if small they turn out to be, before the right of apoetheosis is offered you and the choice must be made for ever."
Genesis, the god of time says, "You are aware - some may not be - that the ascension to godhood means a casting off the mortal precursor."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Alarius will become a ghost in the shell, soon a name in the city's history and on the Avalon history tomes."
Genesis, the god of time says, "No longer shall Alarius be part of the good fight nor friend of city and guildmates nor sharing the burdens of mortal struggle."
Genesis, the god of time says, "There is however the third of the key relationships of a mortal's life."
Genesis, the god of time says, "And though you have the right of appointment, and require not the blessings of the pantheon for this apotheosis - since you have earned it by your own sweat and toil..."
Genesis, the god of time says, "There is one deity whose assent is necessary for the final judgment to welcome you into the pantheon."
Genesis, the god of time says, "I would hope this is an obvious matter."
Genesis smiles encouragingly at Alchemist Alarius.
Alchemist Alarius smiles encouragingly at Genesis.
Aethon grins at Genesis in an amiable manner.
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun says, "Aethon, my patron, I ask your leave to become one of the Pantheon."
Aethon, the Sun-God says, "Priest Alarius, Lord Genesis and Cornelius have said enough of your achievements before the mortals here."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Aethon, patron of Alarius; Alarius, your own patron. The patron is the only deity with veto on the right of appointment. J'attends."
Aethon, the Sun-God says, "This last year has been a long road and challenge for you but not the first you have undertaken in your Avalonian life."
Aethon, the Sun-God says, "When you first applied to join My Order, you were tested like every other who has attempted to join the ranks of the Sun. Unlike many however, you achieved this."
Aethon, the Sun-God says, "After joining, you set out your own personal quests and Godhood was at the centre of these."
Aethon, the Sun-God says, "Today you stand before the Olympian doors and success. It would be rather strange for Me to stand in your way."
Aethon, the Sun-God says, "Naturally you have My blessings."
Aethon, the Sun-God nods at Genesis, the god of time.
Genesis, the god of time smiles openly.
Genesis, the god of time says, "I didn't think Aethon would deny you the achievement but it is important you have the blessing of the deity you have chosen to place your eternal trust in."
Genesis, the god of time says, "And moreover kept faith with despite Aethon's absence and the pressure of a succession of would-be replacements."
Genesis, the god of time says, "It is another of the qualities that counted in your favour."
Genesis, the god of time says, "But now we reach the denouement, for there is little more to be said."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Alarius appointed as none have been before you: by right earned, and right that shall not be taken away."
Genesis, the god of time says, "But it remains for our last formality."
Genesis, the god of time says, "And though the pantheon (patron aside) cannot veto your right any longer, they each have the right to bless or curse your apotheosis."
Genesis, the god of time says, "And to ask you a question, to be placed on historical record."
Genesis, the god of time says, "To be remembered by those in years to come. Hopefully not for the wrong reasons."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Those who were here at Sylvanus' appointment will recall Cornelius blowing the ceremony wide open with a question that not only left Elmak speechless but heralded the future misery of his attempt at divinity."
Cornelius, the all-consuming beams broadly.
Elmaethor, god of the stars grins at Cornelius.
Genesis, the god of time says, "I was furious with Cornelius at the time for interrupting the smooth ceremony but he was in the right."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Elmaethor, Astrea, Mephisto, Cornelius, Xanthe, Geolin and Rhadamanthys: you are not obliged to question, you may bless or abstain or curse this apotheosis..."
Genesis, the god of time says, "But if you have a question to ask before you declare, please do so."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Alarius, I am sure, you welcome this."
Genesis points an accusing finger at Elmaethor.
Elmaethor, god of the stars says, "I do not have a question, but I would like to say that despite many years of not seeing eye to eye with Alarius (he was always wrong, obviously), the last year has pleasantly changed my mind. I give my blessing with the hope that he makes the realm of Light a militant and passionate one."
Genesis points an accusing finger at Astrea.
Astrea, the first goddess says, "Alarius, as you have shown yourself to have led the City of Light with wisdom and courage, may your ascension be the dawning of a golden age for all who champion that which is good and just."
Alchemist Alarius smiles encouragingly at Astrea.
Genesis points an accusing finger at Mephisto.
Mephisto, god of the night says, "I have a question first."
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun says, "Thank you Lady Astrea. I wish you all good fortune as well in your own quest."
Astrea gives Alchemist Alarius an encouraging smile.
Mephisto, god of the night says, "Though my blessing is given as I trust in the judgement of Genesis and have looked over Alarius's record the past year."
Mephisto, god of the night asks, "My question is this: Alarius, why appointment and not a crack at ordination?"
Genesis, the god of time narrows his eyes to thin slits.
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun says, "I have had horrid luck with gemquests over the years, from otherworldy committments to just missing at the end. In the end, I decided that while I've always dreamed of being Ordained, the more important task was to have a force of Good in the Pantheon once more. I determined I would do whatever was necessary to attain that goal. I spoke with Genesis and I thought I could prove my worthiness in other ways to blaze a path for others to follow. "
Mephisto, god of the night says, "The night can respect the embers that glow for eternity and see beyond the bonfire that flares for just an evening."
Mephisto, god of the night says, "My blessing you have."
Genesis points an accusing finger at Cornelius.
Willo Geier pitches forward suddenly and falls on his belly. His skin glistens as slime drools from every pore and all vestige of his humanity is quickly sloughed as the worm-form metamorphosis takes hold. His face contorts horribly, eyes separating and bulging mantis-like on either side of a head whose conical tip is a purposeless snapping beak.
He is a worm. The Gods have spoken and the die is cast.
Cornelius dons his hood and in the wakelight of his face revealed, he says, "As the perennial executioner of appointments, I will make first clear that divinity is unlike mortality. It is neither petty arbitration of mortals or the reverse, meddling in their affairs.".
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "Our divinity is raised sometimes by contest or sometimes by the potency of our influence on others."
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "It is an altogether different existence which the world as it is could never exist without. The reason is that divinity forges relationships, bonds and potent new forces by their own wills."
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "You created relationships, as Sylvanus, and yet you may by another name or realm be called, you are still he."
Cornelius, the all-consuming asks, "My first of two points is this: what and where do you wish to take the Sylvanfolk?"
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun says, "The Sylvanfolk have perpetually existed in the shadows of the cities of Man, serving but always conflicted between loyalties to Nature and loyalties to their chosen homeland. During my time as Sylvanus, I encourage them to think outside of those bonds and work to creak their own community within the forests. It is my intention to continue to encourage them along that path so that the cities of Man do not hold such sway of over the world of Nature."
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "Quite so, that's a fine answer. Divinity bonds to the personality, not some half-baked sense of realm, name or obligatory duty."
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun says, "I have made clear to all those that I have spoken with in my guise as Sylvanus that I will continue to be available as a source of counsel and advice in whatever shell I wear. "
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "The other point, not so much question, is that as the Light God returns, and myself being the furthest in the darkness, it is upon you to make that realm your own. No interpretation but your own will bring your realm under your own ownership, and then we will clash. Mercinae is left a leader -- you trust him -- and it is young. Bear in mind that divinity is not so two dimensional as to have, ever, an easy answer. It'll be my joy to ensure you never find such."
Cornelius, the all-consuming says, "With that, I give my consent."
Genesis points an accusing finger at Xanthe.
Xanthe, the goddess of vengeance says, "I have no question but my blessing I shall give. I look forward to seeing vengeance dancing in the light for days, months and years to come."
Alchemist Alarius smiles encouragingly at Xanthe.
Genesis points an accusing finger at Geolin.
Geolin, Fortune Smiling asks, "Fortune has already smiled upon you in your appointment and I declare my support. But I would know why you have chosen the Light as a realm, if that is your ultimate decision?"
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun says, "My past is intimately tied up with the realm of Light and it is the realm that I most closely associate with goodness in Avalon. It is the flickering light that pushes back the darkness and gives hope once more and it is the burning brand that chases away the shadows. It is what I will bring to the realm of Light."
Genesis points an accusing finger at Rhadamanthys.
Genesis, the god of time says, "Last but not least moustache'd."
Rhadamanthys, god of compassion says, "Alarius, I whole-heartedly welcome you to the Pantheon and bless this apotheosis. May your followers bask in your Light for eternity."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Then we are done and dusted."
Genesis, the god of time says, "All that remains Alarius is for you to be offered one last opportunity as a mortal to speak as Alarius, to your fellows."
Genesis, the god of time says, "To them say as you wish, to the gods also, and to me you need answer one question: do you still wish this apotheosis to be given? It is irreversible."
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun says, "I would like to thank everyone both friends and enemies for my time as a mortal in Avalon. It has been one of the best experiences of my life as it opened my eyes to the power of imagination and the written word. To those gods who I have had relationships both good and ill in the past, I want you to know that we mortals appreciate everything you bring to Avalon. To Genesis, I am ready to take the next step. I want you to know how much I appreciate your patience with the questions I have and I pledge to serve Avalon faithfully as you put this trust in me."
Alchemist Alarius smiles encouragingly at Genesis.
Genesis, the god of time says, "So be it."
Genesis, the god of time says, "Now folks, we sit back and watch."
Genesis, the god of time point his Omnipotent finger at Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun and cries "mortal, begone!" in a voice not loud yet somehow able to resonate across the entire world.
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun has accepted the challenge to cast off mortality in apotheosis; a new God of full stature in Avalon's illustrious pantheon.
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun looks about himself and smiles, a final expression of ambivalence smoothed away as he listens to the voice of his destiny.
Images flash through your mind; of Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun young and naive to the land, growing in his city and his guild, spending hours learning and teaching.
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun holds his arms aloft and turns his eyes towards the Gods: his new-found kin.
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun speaks clearly the fateful words "I accept the challenge. Let my soul be made free!" and though he speaks softly there is a brightness aflame in his eyes.
Alchemist Alarius, the Golden Sun lets fall his arms in a final gesture of resignation and the flame within grows so intense his mortal form is consumed in a flash. And then He is gone.
The Door of Night have opened revealing the utter blackness without. Then suddenly all is not dark. A willowy fragment of light rapidly grows, soon filling the Door with a scathing fulgence - the inner-manifestation of an immortal soul. It is a vision only the Gods may perceive fully: the passing of Hyperion from the Void into Avalon. His cry, however, is heard across the entire world: "the realm of LIGHT is mine!"
Behold, all mortaldom and bear witness to the birth of Hyperion, the god of light! With His terrific cry Hyperion has claimed the Light realm as His own. The Doors of Night close behind Him as He renders Himself in divine physical form: a many-splendoured being, wreathed still in newborn radiance. It is a moment so fierce and awe-inspiring most are barely able to behold its brilliance.
But soon the brightness dims and the Door of Night is closed and all around you falls to reverential silence; a moment of contemplation for you have borne witness to the birth of a deity...
Light descends all about you, a brilliance at once inviolate and divine. It heralds the arrival of Hyperion, the god of light and he is crowned in an all-seeing radiance before which all must stand revealed.
Elmaethor, god of the stars shakes Hyperion by the hand.
