Your prompt is an at-a-glance marker to say "ready for your command" and as you grow more advanced in your Avalon life, you will likely find yourself using the prompt to gather a clutch of useful information (such as your health and mana, the area you are in, what spell you have chanted, etc). There are numerous preset prompt layouts - described below or type PROMPT STATUS - which you can use as you wish, or type PROMPT HELP to see the wholly player-defined prompt where you decide all the things you want to appear and discard anything else you feel superfluous.
There are ways to make your Avalon prompt show information - in shorthand - for quick "know your condition" e..g. when fighting. This is explained below under FULLPROMPT and BATTLEMODE. There is a facility for setting numerous inclusions alongside your prompt covering dozens of circumstances, character states/aspects, etc and documentred in HELP INCLUSIONS.
Syntax: PROMPT OFF, PROMPT GAG and PROMPT UNGAG.
PROMPT GAG and PROMPT OFF will switch off your prompt altogether - no fullprompt, no divider / denomination of 'what now?' etc. There will be no inclusions, no extra info, no prompt-space. This can be reversed by PROMPT UNGAG to bring this back to normal. PROMPT GAG removes everything but PROMPT OFF will not affect PROMPT inclusions per the commands below (though FULLPROMPT letter codes and health/mana info are suppressed).
Syntax: PROMPT STATUS.
Tells you the current status of your prompt and battlemode and included info/variables or player-defined prompt text.
Syntax: FULLPROMPT ON/OFF.
Turning on your FULLPROMPT tells Avalon to include some code letters/characters on the leftside of your prompt. These codes will provide an at-a-glance insight into various character states like whether you are protected against fire, whether you have equilibrium, whether you are unbalanced, etc.
Here is a list of letters as they appear in FULLPROMPT ON, denoting a certain defence or affliction/character state (note: capital/lower case matters):
b Blind d Deaf f Fire Resistant
e Equilibrium l Levitated i Immunity
x Kelventari Aura o Voice Projection C Cold Resistant
p Potion Satiated h Allhealed w Webbed up
v Candescent Veil c Cloak of Protection a Alkared
y Right Unbalance z Left Unbalance
You will see a '/D' if you have the post-resurrection "death sheen" active, or a '/A' if your alkar of rebirth (just after login) remains unbroken. These are significant defences - the former particularly - since it allows preparation in the face of possible ambush. Both character states serve to highlight/bold the prompt.
You should aim to maintain 'c', 'f', 'e', and 'x' on your prompt at all times if you are using Fullprompt. These are the most basic of defences and will enhance your chance at surviving attack when venturing outside the safety of your home city.
Syntax: FULLPROMPT INFO/MAX/PERCENT.
This adds to FULLPROMPT ON by including your current health and mana (as well as the letter codes) for fast reading. FULLPROMPT INFO has a few options to say how you would prefer your health/mana displayed: as numbers against maximum possible withFULLPROMPT INFO MAX (switched off by FULLPROMPT MAX OFF) or as percentages using FULLPROMPT PERCENT ON (with FULLPROMPT PERCENT OFF to disable). FULLPROMPT INFO OFF switches off health/mana and FULLPROMPT OFF turns off all extended prompt data.
Syntax: BATTLEMODE ON/OFF.
Battlemode is a short-cut for activating half a dozen "combat readiness" states all rolled into one: it turns on FULLPROMPT in INFO mode, FVB (fightverybrief), CONCENTRATE (reduce combat messages), HOSTILE (see HELP DEMEANOUR), ENTOURAGE OFF and IGNORE FORTS/TREES (see HELP IGNORE). You can use BATTLEMODE OFF will revert and in one command restore full friendly, verbose/informative modus operandi.
Syntax: PROMPT <new prompt text> and PROMPT ON/OFF or PROMPT NORMAL.
It is possible to disable your Avalon prompt entirely by typing PROMPT OFF or customise it so your prompt remains mostly unchanged regardless what happens to your character using PROMPT <your prompt>. Returning your prompt to normal is done via PROMPT ON (when it is off) or PROMPT NORMAL (when it has been redefined).
Syntax: PROMPT <client/game type>.
Avalon allows those used to the prompt styles of other games of the "text" genre to exchange the multifaceted player-defined Avalon prompt for the familiar content found elsewhere. For instance PROMPT LPMUD will give you the <hp m mov> prompt favoured by the LP MUD text game standard.
Syntax: PROMPT HELP and PROMPT RESET.
Shows you the list of prompt variables you can choose entirely to suit as inclusions against your standard prompt. There are between fifty and a hundred possible inclusions you can add to your prompt ranging from the altitude of your present location to the extent of your fatigue to what you are wielding in your right strike hand. All is documented in HELP INCLUSIONS. PROMPT RESET removes all inclusions, restoring your prompt to default info settings.
Prompt colour changes to green if you have chosen pacifism and yellow if you are a duellist, to denote your protections from violent attack.
Prompt colour will be red if you have blocked tells from your enemies rated higher than 1 (ETELLS OFF) or cyan if you are blocking tells quietly from enemies rated 1 on your ENEMIES list (ETELLS QUIET).
Prompt colour will grow danger-purple when you are engaged in an active challenge or duel against another player.
