There are a wide variety of specialist skills for legions to train and these define its effectiveness in all areas of warfare. Some skills should be considered essentials like Alacrity, Deployment and Fighting, others almost as crucial like Equipment, Forts, Formations, Constructing, and Melee. The thirty or forty additional training specialities will depend on the use you intend for the legion and which city or guild/profession the legion represents. Here is a list of all the special skills developed by legions:
THE ESSENTIALS
"Alacrity" Determines the pace of order response/execution.
"Fighting" Flexible Melee, Bombs, Archers inventory permitting.
"Deployment" Speed of deployment on orders, movement, actions.
THE CORE SKILLS
"Constructing" Constructing war-materials from commodities.
"Equipment" Using/maneuvering field equipment (eg catapults etc).
"Formations" Adopting designated battle formations in real-time.
"Melee" Combat close-up using hand-to-hand or ideally weapons.
"Marching" Movement about points or between locations, across all approaches.
MARCHING SUPPORT SKILLS
"Climbing" Maneouvering up/down exits including ladder use/trenches.
"Swimming" Traversing bodies of water, diving in/out quickly
"Navigation" Navigation over water using transports and ships.
"Levitation" Employing magical arts to levitate, controlling height.
"Highground" Taking advantage of higher ground over opposition.
"Lowground" Experienced use of lower-ground on the battlefield.
TERRAIN SPECIAL SKILLS:
"Trenches" Digging and fortifying trenches in suitable environs.
"Levelground" Filling in trenches and pits, downing obstacles.
"Tunnelling" Making tunnels underground between adjacent locations.
"Lumberjacking" Felling trees, cutting bush/hedge, scything wildland paths.
EQUIPMENT SUPPORT SKILLS:
"BuildForts" Building fortifications in locations or for tactical gain.
"Minefields" Laying detonating mines in appropriate surrounds.
"Forts" Potency within forts, barbicans, field holeouts.
"OilCauldrons" Cauldrons of boiling oil higher to lower ground.
"Minehunting" Finding and/or avoiding minefields, uncovering/diffusing.
BATTLEFIELD AND ENGAGEMENT SKILLS:
"Archers" Employing the legion composite bow and arrow for range attack.
"Bombs" Using the great catapults and mortar bombs for ranged attacks.
"Razing" Burning/destroying undefended enemy constructions.
"Plundering" Plundering treasure/items from unfortified locale.
"Besieging" Organised, slowsteady attack against fortified targets.
"Resolution" Fortitude and constancy to commands all circumstances.
SCOUTING/INFORMATION SUPPORT SKILLS
"Hawkeyes" Accuracy for actions performed at distance/long-range.
"Scouting" Covert, speedy information from enemy territory.
"Reporting" Relaying and reporting distant battlefield events.
