I agree completely that the system of challenging someone should not be a free
ride to attack and kill them unhindered, as i agree with the rest of your posts.
However, if such an outlaw, challenges someone then the recipient has three options.
1. They choose not to challenge back and avoid the combat altogether.
2. They choose to return the challenge, to prove themselves against their challenger in a fight between the two.
3. They do not return the challenge and they get all their buddies to team the agressor when he comes for them.
In options 1 and 3, leaving the attacker be, would certainly be providing protection for such outlaws.
But if they choose option 2 then they show their willingness to fight 1 on 1 with the agressor or outlaw... and who are we to interfere?
