If you could read my city board you'd be able to see my knowledge on traps and mandrake. Personaly I want my knight ability to wake up fast back. As far as I can tell that was always a behind the scenes ability of knights I don't see why it was changed. Plaman even in the old days was able to land a bind.

Is mandrake overpowered, slightly, do thieves need in one on one situations a boost in power yes, does the fact that every thief only uses the mandrake bind yarl strategy over and over till they finaly win conducive to an argument that this is compared to other thief abilities overpowered. yes.
