Fair vs. Unfair in Avalon (Part II).

Dr Maiya, Diagnosis Deliciousto Everyone

Now given that we have established equality between non-guild skills, it would be vastly bold of

us to tackle on the problem of specialized Guild skills and their equality to each other.

Rather than attempt to climb Mt. Everest, let us climb a few smaller mountains a third in size

and then just add them up. The same amount of work is done in the process if you paid any attention

whatsoever in your physics classes. Anyways, moving on we will first theorize that each specialized

Guild Skill has as many advantages as it does disadvantages (please note the use of the word,

'theorize').

The only way we can now skew the balance of these skills is to introduce outside factors.

Some examples: Divine Favour, Divine Disfavour, Bloodlust, Enemy Status, Alignment, Survival

Needs (sleep, hunger), Divine Protection and finally Health Level.

Divine Favour, Divine Disfavour and Divine Protection can easily be understood as being Good, Bad

and Neutral for you, respectively speaking (Neutral because most fighters don't like being DP, but

it still has its advantages and disadvantages like all of our skills).

Enemy Status and Alignment seem to add either an advantage or disadvantage depending on where the

Player is geographically. Survival Needs such as starving to death or being bleary eyed and

desperately needing sleep have their disadvantages and advantages to the two opposing fighters as

well. This leaves us with Bloodlust and Health level. Two variables that seem to have a more

undefined supporting role in our skill usage. Hammerfisting someone on 270 health is going to do

135 damage based on the parameters that define that fisticuffs skill. Hammerfisting a Knight

when he/she uses stronghealth will do 1035 damage when his/her health is 2070. Clearly the amount

of damage done is vastly different for each case. Bloodlust seems to be even more tricky as it

dictates that certain offensive actions can be done to the other person while others actions

cannot be done. I give you this example: An enemy strolls into my city and I attempt to use my

Guild Stone to farpush him out. Now due to Bloodlust restrictions, I cannot do this for I lack

the lust to lavish my attentions upon this enemy. However, my enemy can still traverse to me

Since the message '<X> appears menacingly before you,' constitutes an OFFENSIVE ACTION by

description of the word 'menacingly,' yet is also defined as being of 'neutral' alignment in a

Warlocks Charming skillset, we as Players are left confused as to what the skill of traversing

actually is in nature. As it would be certainly disadvantageous to me if I were to let my enemy

traverse to me, take my runes and other guildstuffs, let him make pills and hand them out to everyone

in his city for usage forever more, would it not be just as equally disadvantageous to my enemy

who has slain 25 people in order to get his bloodlust that high in the first place, the inability

to commit an offensive action such as traversing to me? If Bloodlust is certainly a 'Gift from the

Gods' as its helpfile discusses, then I would assume that the advantages of BL equal the dis-

advantages, otherwise they wouldn't call it a 'Gift.' Therefore, rather than define this

usage of a skill as being a 'bug,' I bring this up here on the Fighter's board so that all Gods

and Players alike may read of it and share their humble input. It would seem by the previous

conjectures that the only thing 'unfair' in Avalon is the lack of practical, intelligent discussion

on bulletin boards -- enough to the point where Gods are interjecting to try and increase its

quality. Well, my friends, here is one opportunity to do so. Try not to muck it up for the

sake of all of us mortals here in Avalon.

Sincerely, Dr. Maiya
