Calagan Emissary of the Smiling Man

"Calagan" with birth certification: 6-5-1995.

Calagan hails from the city of Thakria.

Calagan is a member of the Thieves Guild with Deputy Guildmaster and Elder statuss.

Outside of a short dalliance with the Bards, Calagan is a renowned and life long Thief. A master manipulator and diplomat, he spent significant periods of his earlier life as master of the guild though the permanent rank of Elder rests more comfortably on his shoulders now the passions of youth have matured. Calagan was the foremost Master Brigand of the Grey Forest in days of yore and part of their transformation into the unified Bandits Guild before the unification.

   Calagan helped co-ordinate the prototype Burglar and Assassination specialisations for the Thief profession and worked hard to bring about the merging of Thieves, Rogues and Bandits as a single global guild. He missed the final unification of the Thief profession through dormancy. One of Calagan's most renowned deeds was the punitive march - alongside Plaman - at the head of the Thief army. He led the legions into the northern Greenwood, successfully battling through to raze the Guild of Animists to teach them a 'lesson for their arrogance'. Calagan's reputation as an Elder, mentor and master of thief technique and ideals is well founded over five hundred years of Avalon life. Few in Avalon embody the best of the old ways without prejudice to the new. [It is an interesting fact that the most senior and knowledgeable remain receptive to the best of new ideas while the middle aged stagnate, hording less and denying the new merely because it is of another generation.]

   In his earlier centuries Calagan was a loyal follower of Andromeda but her disappearance from the land left Calagan to use his silver tongue to curry favour with some of the old Gods without surrendering his patron. Two hundred years of dreaming was succeeded by a brief sojourn as easy-won High Priest of Maedhros, before renouncing on Magdalene's behalf to take up a more condusive and low-profile role in the Order of Vengeance. More active under Andromeda, Calagan has nonetheless been a follower of Xanthe for over three centuries.

   Calagan was an infrequent face for a few hundred years 'til the late 14th century saw a more significant renaissance with more than a suggestion of youthful ambition. These decades are graced by the return of many "half a millennia" fellows of historical renown and Calagan, though he feels a shortfall in fighting prowess, is by no means least of these. His skill at diplomacy and politics is beyond question. These will slowly assert themselves no doubt but though many have died to his artful oft-anonymous poisons, it is to the blade and the fighting passions of front line combat he is drawn. Will this allure overbear natural reticence or is Calagan's greatness to remain in the undoubted glories of centuries past?

He left the Bards Guild on the 13th day of Paglost 983.

On the 13th day of Paglost 983, he was initiated into the Bandits Guild (under the mastery of Civilised Sturge).

On the 16th day of Hindyear 983, he completed apprenticeship in the Bandits guild and took the profession of the Thief.

He renounced citizenship of Mercinae on the 21st day of Midwinter 1010.

On the 21st day of Midwinter 1010, he accepted citizenship of Parrius.

On the 16th day of Skyelong 1037 he denounced the patronage of Andromeda, the goddess of dreams.

He was welcomed into the Order of Maedhros on the 16th day of Skyelong 1037.

He gained multiple promotions through the ranks of Maedhros' order, receiving High Priest of the Forests rank on the 16th of Skyelong 1037 aDW.

He is demoted to the order rank of a Priest on the 5th day of Mournsend 1038.

He renounced citizenship of Parrius on the 28th day of Paglost 1054.

On the 28th day of Paglost 1054, he accepted citizenship of Thakria.

Calagan was noted as having crossed the thousand hours - completing the THOUSAND deed - in days of yore. Recognition came in Hindyear 1381 aDW.

On the 28th day of Paglost 1054 he denounced the patronage of Maedhros Allendil, the Hunter.

He was welcomed into the Order of Xanthe on the 28th day of Paglost 1054.

He won the election for Guildmaster of the Bandits Guild, beating Arkane, on the 12th day of Mournsend 1055.

He gains promotion to the order rank of a believer on the 18th day of Agamnion 1056.

He gains promotion to the order rank of a follower on the 27th day of Paglost 1057.

He won the election for Guildmaster of the Bandits Guild, beating Arkane, on the 16th day of Skyelong 1058.

He was defeated by Dreeman in the election for Guildmaster of the Bandits Guild on the 13th day of Springflower 1065.

Calagan entered the middle age of an Avalonian life. He turned FIVE HUNDRED years old on the 9th of Midsummer 1378 aDW.

Calagan was noted as having been successful in all guild honour quests - completing the GUILDHONOURS deed - in days of yore. Recognition came in Hindyear 1381 aDW.

He gained promotion in the Order of Xanthe, the goddess of vengeance, to the rank of Praetorian in the "Order of the Ebon Chalice" Chapter. The promotion was given on the 27th day of Paglost 1384.

Calagan was elected onto the council of Thakria on the 4th day of Springflower 1385 with Baron rank.
