After all of the divine gems (save the amethyst itself) have been won, the final two contenders from among the gem-winners are determined by a series of elimination contests involving the sands of time (see HELP SANDS).
These contests last one hour and are invariably ONE versus ONE contests, in which the two contenders clash over possession of the sands of time. The winner of each eliminator is determined by who is holding the sand at the end of the hour, or - in the event that nobody has possession after time has elapsed - the first person to pick them up after the clock has run out shall be declared the victor.
Rules are few: The land must be taken "as is", with all the obstacles, advantages and disadvantages that that entails. Any outside interference from other mortals will not be permitted. Any "perfect defence" to losing the sands will invariably be disallowed - affording the perfect defender the opportunity to make an escape without being unduly penalised for having discovered it. As yet, no perfect defence has ever been discovered.
Sands eliminators are inevitably a spectacular clash between two mortals of the highest calibre and are an undeniable test of an Avalonian's determination, courage and ingenuity - as well as their knowledge of the very land itself. Typically, the gods allow spectating of these events from the pools at the Rock Pinnacle, though it is for the contenders themselves to decide whether to make public their techniques, or to keep them secret for the next great battle..
These eliminators continue until only two contenders remain - and it is these two individuals, having beaten all of their opposition, who shall compete in the
amethyst Ordination finale.
