In line with the changing demands and needs of those using the internet,

Avalon is going through major changes starting this month. These changes

should make the game more accessible, give existing and old players new

opportunities and court new interest in our unique world.


1. Avalon, the First Age


Avalon has evolved much in response to the perceived needs of its

inhabitants over the five or six years it has been on the internet. This

evolved world is much different to the original vision, the game first

conceived and implemented by its creators. The original game was far more

violent, cut-throat, dog eat dog, competitive, intense and unpredictable.

Though this does not suit everybody there are many that yearn for this

first age and others who would prefer to throw themselves into a more

bloodthirsty arena. To this end we are deeply pleased to bring to life

Avalon, the First Age. It is the Avalon that existed before the internet.

The original design. The raw game. It will not be for everybody. The

checks and balances, the regulation and policing which are accepted and

desired in the current game are absent. But for those who wish to

experience afresh the true concept, here it is. There will be no existing

mortals, all will start from nothing. It will be a gloriously empty world,

a living homage to the first age of the gameworld with so many echoes.


2. Avalon, the Legend Lives


The existing Avalon, the evolved and balanced gameworld, will not be

altered or influenced by the First Age. They are totally separate in both

management and players. The continuity which has endured for a decade in

the existing gameworld will go on. The style of management and regulation

is entirely different between the two worlds. We hope they will both

flourish and meet the needs and goals of the diverse community. The

evolved world will expand and grow with renewed vigour and interest.

Unlike in the First Age, the needs of the players will be addressed and

met. While the First Age exists primarily to give life to the original

Avalon design and concept, harsh, unforgiving and uncompromising, you will

find the evolved current Avalon to be softer, more responsive, more

protective and nurturing to the requirements of its players.


3. Charges for playing Avalon, the Legend Lives and Avalon, the First Age


In light of these changes to Avalon itself, to its management, and the

flow of the internet itself, charging for both games will be entirely

changed. Avalon has been charged via an hourly rate for ten years and the

time has come to move with the times. We are shifting to a monthly

unlimited play rate for both games. There will be no sleeplearning. The

charge will be as follows:


Avalon, the Legend Lives 15 pounds per month


(Approximately $24)


Avalon, the First Age $24 per month


The two games are separate. Though there is some crossover in divine

presence they are managed, ultimately, by distinct groups. You are welcome

to play one, or both, as you please. This represents a major change in

Avalon's pricing structure, one which has been planned for some time, and

one we hope will see both worlds flourish for new and old.


4. Existing Players


Needless to say there are a large number of existing players with credits

left over from the old system. These credits will be transferred directly

over into months of unlimited play on Avalon, the Legend Lives. Your

characters will be continuous. There will be no transferring of credits

between characters from December 1999. The value of the credits you own at

the point of changeover will be directly translated into the new system.


5. Lifetime Membership


As a one-off recognition for all of those players who, over the years,

have given Avalon life, we are offering all those existing players a

lifetime membership option. This will be a single payment for a character

which will last forever. Both games will be offering this option for the

duration of January to March 2000. This option will only be available to

those who were customers before January of 2000 - for those who have been

with us, now or in the past.

These various measures signal a new momentum within Avalon and new

involvement in its higher eschelons. Perhaps we will see you somewhere

in the Avalon world, whichever age suits your preference.
