I'm sure many of you will be interested in the state of play regarding
Avalon's crash of two weeks ago, and any residual problems from it.
The crash was due to a total hardware failure of our servers in
DC. These servers are provided for us and managed by independent
net providers in the area. Backups of the system are performed by them,
as part of our contract with them. Reliability of the servers are
also supposedly guaranteed. Unfortunately their hardware proved
unreliable and the backups were somehow corrupted too. Avalon will be
taking up that with them, seeking compensation. To compond matters
when they did put our system back up again they placed us on a
vastly inferior backup machine. This will be the reason for increased
lag over the past week or two.
Today they upgraded us onto better but still inferior hardware. You should
notice a speed improvement. However, I am told by the people in DC that
this machine could be unreliable. We will hopefully be upgraded back to
a full machine within a week. Meantime, bear with it. I'm hoping there
won't be too much disruption and the current machine is twice as fast
as the one we've been running on since the crash.
