I've found in this system that honour is not an actual objective comodity, but rather a relative set of criteria with which to judge others or rationalize actions (usually failed actions).

Seems to me that at least in this world, no action is outright honourable - it is only honourable in relation to another action. Especially in relation to other people, who obviously have other beliefs and objectives, and their actions.

For instance, not interfering in a challenge is only honourable because we can compare it to interfering in a challenge.

This may seem a fine point, but it negates the notion of honour as a true objective value or force. It seems purely reactionary, and therefore easily clouded with personal judgments, and largely irrelevant.


Therefore, to my mind, the only reason to kill or die for some brand of honour is simply to alleviate boredom.

And since most of us will never consistently defeat Pana or Criam (I forget what the purpose of the gem quest tourny is), and since running a city is highly overrated, and guilds are the piano lounges of their cities... honour has its place.
