The message says it all. To fight a battle you have already lost and know you can't win, is pointless. If there is no need to die to one you know at this time you can't beat, there is no wisdom in fighting. A pointless death is just that. A death that teaches you, or you die for an ideal or city or friend, then wisdom smiles upon your attempt to find me.
