Issuing a challenge alone may be, as you note, done for a myriad of other reasons. To scare off the little, to shame the cowardly likes of Blaatand, to embarrass, mock, antagonize, whatever...
So I sppose in that I agree with you. Butif two people decide they want to step on the dance floor together, why should someone else cut in?
