With regards to pacifism,

There are many people who do use pacifism as an extended form of protection.

There are also people who are pacifists, from a moral standpoint. This I think is their roleplaying perrogative to do.

Some people who play are quite into roleplay, if they chose to express a facet of their online persona in a non violent way

they have a right to do so.
